Lebanon is a member of the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property. Trademark protection is obtained by registration.

Trademark registration: Requirements

1. A legalized power of attorney

Trademark registration: Procedure

The application process includes a formal examination, an examination of distinctiveness, and a search for prior trademarks. It takes approximately 8-12 months from first filing to registration. After registration, the trademark is published in the Gazette. The opposition period is 30 days from the publication date of the application.

• Filing: the mark will be filed in the trademark office where a serial number and dated filing document would be given for the ordered mark.
• Formal Examination: an examination of distinctiveness and a search for prior trademarks (Formal Examination could not be done without completing all required documents).

Trademark registration: Duration

Trademark registration in Lebanon is valid for 15 years and starts with the Filing date. The registration is renewable for periods of 15 years.

• Publication: the Assignment will be registered and published in the Gazette.

Change of name or address: Procedure

• Filing: the (Change of name or address) will be filed in the trademark office where a serial number and dated filing document would be given for the ordered (Change of name or address).
• Publication: the (Change of name or address) will be registered and published in the Gazette.

• A legalized power of attorney
• Legalized certificate of Trademark Cancellation. (Done)
• Give details of the mark (s) involved. (nr)

Trademark Cancellation: Procedure

• Filing: the Trademark Cancellation will be filed in the trademark office where a serial number and dated filing document would be given for the ordered Cancellation.
• Publication: the Trademark Cancellation will be registered and published in the Gazette.

Models/designs Registration: Requirements

• A legalized power of attorney.
• 6 copies of the drawing photographs & description in Arabic or in any other language provided that Arabic translation thereof is submitted (translation may be prepared locally) (nr)
• A sample of small design might be required (if possible). (nr)
• Details of home / foreign registration, if available (the registrar may ask for the submission of a copy of corresponding registration). (nr)
• Priority document if claimed. (nr)
